Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon)
Introduce the ultimate, head-turning centerpiece to your marine system. The Powder Blue Tang is globally celebrated for its breathtaking color palette, featuring an oval-shaped, powder-blue body contrasted by a dark black face, a stark white throat patch, and a brilliant neon-yellow dorsal fin. This incredibly energetic swimmer commands attention as it gracefully cruises the open water zones of large reef systems.
Beyond its runway-ready looks, this surgeonfish is a dedicated grazer that works around the clock to keep your aquascape pristine and clear of unwanted nuisance algae.

Key Features & Tank Requirements
🌊 High-Flow Surge Zones
Naturally inhabiting shallow, high-energy reef flats where waves constantly crash, this species requires massive amounts of dissolved oxygen. Heavy powerhead water turnover, high-volume wavemakers, and an efficient protein skimmer are strictly mandatory for its long-term health.
🚜 Relentless Algae Control
An exceptional biological tool for natural reef maintenance. Equipped with a specialized mouth structure, it will constantly graze on filamentous hair algae and organic film across your rocks.
🥗 High-Fiber Herbivore Diet
While it will eagerly eat meaty frozen options like mysis shrimp, its primary fuel must come from marine vegetation to prevent lateral line disease (HLLE). Provide daily sheets of dried seaweed (Nori) on an algae clip alongside high-quality spirulina flakes and herbivore pellets.
🛡️ Disease Susceptibility Warning
Like most Acanthurus species, the Powder Blue lacks a thick protective slime coat, making it highly susceptible to marine ich and velvet under stress. Running a high-output UV sterilizer on the main system and executing a strict quarantine protocol are strongly advised to ensure success.
🗡️ Intense Territorial Dominance
Extremely peaceful toward non-tang community inhabitants, but fiercely territorial toward its own genus or similarly shaped fish. To minimize aggressive disputes, it should be introduced as one of the absolute final additions to a large, established system.
