Valentini Saddle Puffer

The Valentini Puffer is a beloved dwarf marine species boasting prominent dark brown "saddles" across its back, iridescent blue-green eyes, yellow fins, and a belly speckled with fine spots. These miniature marvels do not just float in the tank; they cruise using a unique, hovering helicopter-like movement driven by their pectoral fins, actively tracking your presence outside the glass.

While giant puffers require massive aquariums, the Valentini stays wonderfully small, making it the perfect centerpiece for mid-sized marine systems.

Features high-contrast, beautiful black-and-tan saddle markings. In the wild, their look is so iconic that the harmless Mimic Filefish (Paraluteres prionurus) actually evolved to clone this exact color scheme to trick predators into thinking it is toxic!

Belongs to the "sharpnose" puffer family, featuring a strong, continuously growing beak. To keep their teeth naturally ground down, their diet must include hard shell items like clams on the half-shell, krill, mysis shrimp, and chopped unpeeled seafood.

Because they naturally hunt small crunchy critters, they are not completely safe for traditional tank janitors. They will systematically pick on, hunt, or kill small ornamental shrimp, hermit crabs, and small snails.

While they do not consume massive coral structures, their curious nature makes them chronic nippers. They can occasionally bother or pick at fleshy LPS corals, clam mantles, or zoanthid polyps if they get bored or underfed.

Tobies are highly inquisitive and fast when startled. Because they easily panic and dart upward during tank cleanings or sudden room lighting changes, a tight-fitting mesh or glass lid is mandatory.
