Why It Deserves a Spot in Your Tank:
- Mesmerizing Movement: Watch its hammer-shaped polyps sway gracefully with your aquarium's current, giving life to your aquascape.
- True Branching Skeleton: Unlike wall-style hammers, the branching variety grows distinct individual stalks, making it incredibly easy to safely frag as it multiplies.
- Perfect Middle-Row Placement: Fills out the mid-level zones of a reef tank beautifully, bridging the gap between low soft corals and high SPS corals.
- Excellent Beginner LPS: Forgiving of minor parameter shifts, making it a staple piece for reefers venturing into stony corals.
Quick Care Parameters:
- Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 100 - 150). Too much direct light can cause tissue damage or bleach the polyps.
- Water Flow: Medium indirect flow. Avoid strong, direct powerhead blasts which can push the flesh brutally against its sharp calcified skeleton.
- Placement: Mid-to-lower rockwork where it has room to expand. Caution: Provide a 4–6 inch safety bubble between it and non-Euphyllia neighbors, as it can extend aggressive stinging tentacles at night.
- Diet: Photosynthetic. However, occasional targeted feedings of mysis shrimp or specialized micro-plankton will significantly boost its growth and tissue thickness. []
