Gem Tang

The Gem Tang is a breathtakingly rare species characterized by a velvety, pitch-black body completely adorned with hundreds of brilliant, glittering white polka dots that terminate at a vivid yellow tail fin. Sourced from deep-water reefs primarily around Mauritius, this high-end showcase fish is a mesmerizing, prestigious masterpiece that instantly elevates any elite reef system.

While it commands a premium status, its actual care is pleasantly straightforward—boasting the excellent hardiness and voracious algae-grazing habits characteristic of the beloved Zebrasoma family.

Features an unforgettable "starry night" constellation pattern over a dark body. Because they are seasonally hand-collected from deeper surge zones, they remain highly exclusive and rarely seen in standard home aquariums.

Naturally inhabits high-energy, oxygen-rich environments. They require strong wavemaker circulation and excellent filtration—such as a high-performance protein skimmer—to keep dissolved organics low and oxygen levels elevated. 

Equipped with an elongated snout perfectly evolved for picking problematic microalgae out of tight rock crevices. To maintain their intense black coloration and support their immune systems, feed daily sheets of dried seaweed (Nori) alongside high-quality spirulina, marine pellets, and enriched frozen mysis shrimp.

Tangs lack a thick, protective slime coat, making them highly susceptible to marine ich and velvet. Due to the high investment value of this specimen, a rigorous quarantine protocol and the use of a reliable UV sterilizer on the main system are strongly recommended.

Extremely peaceful toward non-tang tank mates, but highly territorial toward its own genus. Avoid housing the Gem Tang with similarly shaped Zebrasoma species (such as Yellow, Purple, or Scopas Tangs) unless introducing them simultaneously into an exceptionally large system with plenty of visual barriers.
