While peaceful toward almost all tank mates, it commands respect with venomous dorsal spines, making it virtually bulletproof against aggressive tank mates like triggers and tangs.

The sharp dorsal spines of the Foxface carry a painful venom used strictly for self-defense. Because of this, even aggressive predators like lionfish and groupers leave them completely alone. Always use caution and a sturdy container (rather than a net) when handling this fish.

An absolute machine when it comes to grazing. They will aggressively consume hair algae, bubble algae (valonia), and bryopsis that other fish completely ignore.

While they happily eat meaty foods, a large Foxface requires massive amounts of marine vegetation to maintain its health and vibrant yellow coloration. Provide daily sheets of dried seaweed (Nori) alongside high-quality spirulina flakes and herbivore pellets.

Do not panic if your Foxface turns a mottled, dark brown color when you turn off the lights or during transport! This "camouflage mode" is a natural stress response. Their brilliant yellow color returns quickly once they feel safe and secure.

Exceptionally peaceful toward other species. They can be housed with everything from small clownfish to large apex predators, making them one of the most versatile large fish in the entire hobby.
