Six Line Soapfish (Grammistes sexlineatus)
Introduce a dynamic, predatory marvel to your fish-only system. The Six Line Soapfish starts life with a sleek black body adorned with high-contrast, brilliant yellow stripes that slowly break into rows of spots as it matures. Watching this stealthy hunter stalk the rockwork adds a thrilling, authentic wild energy to the aquarium.
While they are exceptionally disease-resistant and easy to feed, they possess a fascinating secret: when threatened, they release a soapy toxin called grammistin to deter predators, making them a species best kept by informed aquarists.

Key Features & Tank Requirements
🧼 The "Soap" Defense
Named for the bitter, mucous-like toxin (grammistin) they secrete from their skin when highly stressed or attacked. This prevents larger predators from eating them, but requires efficient aquarium filtration (skimming and carbon) to manage in closed systems.
🦎 Ambusher of the Shadows
A nocturnal predator by nature that loves plenty of rockwork, overhangs, and dim caves. Once acclimated, they become bolder, actively patrolling the tank during feeding times.
💥 Big Mouth, Big Appetite
Do not underestimate their mouth size! They can swallow fish up to half their own body length. Keep them away from firefish, small wrasses, or chromis, as well as ornamental shrimp and crabs.
🥩 Simple Carnivorous Feeding
Extremely easy to feed and rarely a picky eater. They eagerly accept chunks of fresh or frozen marine meats, including krill, silversides, chopped squid, mysis shrimp, and chopped raw seafood.
🐠 Ideal Tank Mates
Perfectly suited for aggressive or semi-aggressive fish-only communities. They house beautifully alongside larger triggers, large angelfish, lionfish, puffers, and moderately sized eels.
